Dynamic Parcours

We have achieved our first success. At the first judged part of the iLumen European Solar Challenge, the Dynamic Parcours, the teams had to prove their skill and speed of pilots and solar cars.

Acceleration, agility and driver precision are measured in different disciplines. For example, our drivers had to accelerate as fast as possible on a straight line, then drive through a cone chicane and finally come to a stop as precisely as possible on a line. The disciplines were then evaluated by the officials and added up to a total score. This score gives 20% of the total challenge points.

After the first two solar cars, it was the turn of the Covestro Photon to be the third vehicle. At the wheel was Tobi, who led the Photon swiftly through the individual stages of the course. An almost flawless performance later, the bar was set for the Covestro Sonnenwagen. Kevin then took to the starting line and also conjured one up. When accelerating, he was even able to achieve slightly more speed than the Photon. Motivated by the good performance, we got back to work preparing the two Sonnenwagen for the 24h race.

After all the solar cars had completed the Dynamic course, we waited eagerly for the results. At a little after 6 pm the time had finally come and the officials told us the preliminary results of the Dynamic Parcours. The joy was great when we saw that we had won first and second place. The Covestro Sonnenwagen won through better acceleration and got the full 20 points. The Covestro Photon got 13 points and ended up in second place.

With this strong result we start super motivated into the evening testing and can’t wait to get everything out of our Sonnenwagen on Saturday.
